Message from Our Principal

August 20, 2018

Dear Helen Keller Family and Community,

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at Keller. For those of you joining us for the first time, we welcome you to the Lobos family! The Keller staff is eager to have students back in classrooms and hallways filling them with their excitement for learning. It is that excitement for learning that our staff strives to nurture in every student.

This year we anticipate having another fantastic and productive year. Our teaching staff is planning engaging and challenging lessons to meet the needs of all our students. Our hardworking custodians have spent the summer cleaning and preparing our facilities. Our dedicated Keller PTA is preparing to welcome all families and provide every member of our community with volunteer opportunities that will enrich the overall Keller experience for everyone. It is an important part of our mission to make sure that all our students feel part of something special at Keller.

This new school year brings changes to our staff. We say goodbye to our former Counselor, Mrs. Blumenfield, and our former Physical Education Teacher, Mr. Herrera. We thank them for their service to our school and wish them the very best. I am pleased to introduce our new staff members: Mr. Ruben Martinez, Counselor, Mrs. Christine Fonseca-Perez, Math Teacher and Mr. Agustin Iniguez, English Language Arts Teacher. We also welcome back Mr. Erik Garcia, Science Teacher.

To our parents, during the upcoming school year, I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s learning. Parent involvement plays a critical role in your child’s success at school. Ways to support and increase your child’s academic success include:

  • Make attendance a PRIORITY including limiting tardiness, absences and early outs
  • Check School Loop and ParentVue regularly to stay informed of student progress
  • Communicate often with your child’s teachers
  • Make sure your child completes assignments sent home
  • Monitor social media use
  • Review the school day with your child
  • Check the school’s webpage

I look forward to greeting students and families again. In partnership, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children. Remember, the first day of school is Wednesday, August 29, 2018, and it is a minimum day with dismissal at 2:18 PM.
